Lampyris brings governments, clean cooking businesses and local communities together to expand access to cleaner household energy. Drawing on work across Africa, we are developing frameworks that connect public priorities, local enterprise and household needs to maximise benefits for society.

Smoke from open fires and polluting stoves harms the people who cook with them. Reliance on firewood and charcoal also puts pressure on forests. Clean cooking addresses both.

Our work connects household energy, local enterprise and knowledge exchange. Government priorities, business capabilities and community needs shape the approach in each place.

Cleaner household energy

We work with public institutions, businesses and local communities on cleaner cooking and household energy, connecting equipment, finance and ongoing support around household needs.

Programme design considers continued use, affordability and environmental effects. Our reporting platform is being developed to make results easier to examine.

Training and local enterprise

Practical training and enterprise support help local businesses and communities build the skills to supply, maintain and use clean cooking solutions.

The frameworks we are developing connect business support with public priorities, community participation and finance, so enterprise growth contributes to wider social benefit.

Culture and knowledge exchange

Cooking is part of everyday life and local culture. Households and businesses bring knowledge that should shape the choices a programme makes.

We support exchanges of skills and experience between communities and countries, alongside cultural education and the preservation of local heritage.

04 ACCOUNTABILITY IN DEVELOPMENT

Track the funding.
Assess the benefit.

Accountability is part of the frameworks we are developing. Our planned open platform will show how contributions are used and help governments, businesses and communities assess what programmes achieve. Our statutes require funds to serve charitable purposes and the accounts to be examined by two independent auditors.

    Record the funding.

    The platform will record each contribution, its source and its purpose in an open ledger.

  2. 02 / ALLOCATIONS

    Show where it goes.

    Allocations to programmes, communities and equipment will be published as they are made.

  3. 03 / DELIVERY

    Confirm what arrives.

    Field data and imagery will document delivery on the ground, alongside the annual independent audit.

  4. 04 / RESULTS

    Report what changes.

    We intend to report outcomes such as household air quality, time saved, local livelihoods and effects on forests, alongside programme costs and reach.

Donations are unrestricted and may be used only for the Association’s charitable purposes. Donors may express a preference for how their contribution is used; that preference is legally non-binding.

OUR EXPERIENCE & AMBITION

Working across borders

We have carried out substantial work in Madagascar and in other African countries. That experience informs an international ambition: to help governments, businesses and local communities expand access to clean cooking in many more places.

Somalia is among the next countries lined up, alongside further opportunities elsewhere. Each new programme will bring public institutions, businesses and communities together around local priorities.
